David Frost Vs Hero Image

Everything you need to know about David Frost Vs

David Frost Vs charts almost half a century of dizzying social, political, and cultural change through the eyes of the one man who had a front-row seat to it all: Sir David Frost.

Made in collaboration with Frost’s son, Wilfred, each episode is built on over 50 years’ worth of rare or never-before-seen archive, revealing a unique view of transatlantic history from 1960 – 2000.

This archive footage is supplemented by interviews with an extraordinary list of contributors, including who help uncover Frost’s incredible life and career as one of the nation’s most renowned news anchors.

Speaking about the commission, Sky News star Wilfred Frost said: “For the last decade since Dad died I have focused on accumulating more rights to his interviews and recovering and restoring lost footage.

“Every conversation is carefully selected to be staggeringly relevant today, told by blockbuster names from The Beatles to Jane Fonda, Muhammad Ali to Richard Nixon.

“Working on this series has been a privilege - not just as Dad’s immensely proud son, but also as a journalist.

“Dad had a front row seat as the most important moments in the postwar world unfolded. I hope we’ve done Dad’s legacy justice.”

Who Is Sir David Frost?

Sir David Frost, born April 7, 1939, is best known as a television presenter and interviewer.

At one point considering a career as a preacher, Frost would later find his natural affinity for entertainment after joining the Footlights Drama Society while studying at Gonville and Caius College, part of the University of Cambridge.

During his time at the college, he became the editor of Varsity, the university’s student paper.

In 1962, he was chosen to host That Was The Week That Was – a comedy programme that took a satirical view of the period’s political landscape.

Frost’s abilities as a journalist soon led him to become best known both in the US and UK as an interviewer. Across his career, he interviewed all eight British prime ministers that served between 1964 to 2016 – starting with Alec Douglas-Home and ending with David Cameron.

He also interviewed all seven American Presidents from 1969 to 2008 – starting with Lyndon B Johnson and ending with George W. Bush.

Most notably, he spoke to US President Richard Nixon in 1977 following the Watergate Scandal, which remains undeniably the biggest televised political interview in history.

The collection of interviews, which were held over a period of four weeks, were released as a four-part series, with the premiere episode drawing in 45 million viewers worldwide.

The interviews, which Frost personally funded, later became the basis of a play and 2008 movie, Frost/Nixon, where Michael Sheen portrayed him.

His other projects include Through the Keyhole from 1987 to 2008; Breakfast With Frost for the BBC, which he hosted from 1993 to 2005; Frost Over The World from 2006-2012.

In 2005, he was awarded the BAFTA Fellowship, and in 2009 he was given the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Emmys.

Frost continued to work until his death on August 31, 2013, at the age of 74. He died of a heart attack on the MS Queen Elizabeth cruise ship, where he was scheduled to make an appearance as a speaker.

He was survived by his wife, Lady Carina Fitzalan-Howard, whom he married in 1983, and his three sons – Wilfred, George and Miles.

Wilfred has continued his father’s legacy, and has become a journalist for Sky News and NBC.

Miles died in 2015 at the age of 31 from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a heart condition it was later discovered Sir David had.

Wilfred and George have since launched the Miles Frost fund in his honour, working to raise awareness and encourage testing for hereditary heart conditions.
