The White Lotus follows the one-per-center rich guests of the exclusive resorts and the workers who are forced to accommodate them during their stay.

Created, written and directed by Mike White – the man behind Sky exclusive series EnlightenedThe White Lotus is a social satire series that delves into the private lives of those who think they have it all.

Taking place over a week, each day brings to light new truths and unveils the realities of the seemingly happy hotel staff and picture-perfect holiday guests – all set against the backdrop of a picturesque holiday resort.

An anthology series, each season takes place at a different White Lotus location around the world, with each one proving to be just as chaotic as the one before.

Season one, airing in 2021, took place in Maui, Hawaii, while season two, which aired in 2023, was based in Hawaii, Sicily. Season three, airing in 2025, is based in Thailand.

Each season begins with the discovery of a dead body, with viewers discovering who it is as we follow the week before the incident.

The White Lotus became an international smash-hit upon its premier in 2021, earning a string of accolades as we track the tumultuous lives of holiday-makers with ultimate First World Problems.

What is the age rating of The White Lotus?

The White Lotus is officially certified 15 by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC).

This means it has been deemed unsuitable for children and younger teenagers.

Reasons for this rating include:

  • Graphic depictions of sex and sexual acts including pornography

  • Frequent use of nudity (particularly in season two)

  • Themes of sexual harassment

  • Scenes of violence, including physical and gun violence

  • Depictions of dead bodies (though never fully shown)

  • Common use of profanity

  • Illicit drug use including cocaine and abuse of prescription medication

  • Scenes of peril and threat that some may find upsetting

How many episodes of The White Lotus are there?

The White Lotus has run for three seasons to date, totalling 21 episodes.

Season one ran for six episodes, season two ran for seven, while season three is upped again to eight.

Season three premiered on Sky and NOW in the UK and Ireland in February 2025.

And excitingly, season four has been officially greenlit and is expected to go into production in 2026.

How many awards has The White Lotus won?

At the time of writing, The White Lotus has earned 158 awards nominations, winning 87.

Will I still be able to watch The White Lotus on Sky with HBO Max launching?

Yes!

And in the case of The White Lotus and a range of other series, as part of Sky’s new deal with HBO, customers will continue to find shows such as House of the Dragon, The White Lotus, and The Last of Us, and any new series aired before the end of 2025, on Sky Atlantic and through Sky’s On Demand service.

Cecile Frot-Coutaz, CEO of Sky Studios and chief content officer of Sky, said: “What’s really good about the deal that we struck is that if you’re a Sky subscriber, at no additional cost, you will have access to the Max app within your Sky platform. So if you’re already a Sky subscriber, you have complete continuity of service. Actually, you probably have more because Max will have more content than what we have today with the HBO shows and the Warner Bros. films.

“It’s going to be completely seamless for those customers, so you’ll have a really rich experience, and that’s at no additional cost.

“Any show that we’ve had historically on our channels you’ll continue to get on the channels, including future seasons of The Last of Us and The White Lotus.”

And what about NOW TV?

In addition, NOW UK and Ireland Entertainment members will also receive bundled access to the ad-supported version of Max, seamlessly integrated into the NOW experience alongside other premium content. They will also continue to get the existing series which were available on Sky as part of their subscription.
